The hotly contested Students’ Union elections for the 2026-27 academic year at the University of Hyderabad were won by the left combine, replacing the incumbent Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad-Sevalal Vidyarthi Dal (ABVP-SLVD).

The left alliance includes All India Students’ Association (AISA), Ambedkar Students’ Association (ASA), Democratic Students’ Union (DSU), Students’ Federation of India (SFI), and Tribal Student’s Forum (TSF).

Dilshada Raihan VP pursuing Ph.D. in Philosophy, representing SFI, was elected president. She secured a margin of over 450 votes over ABVP candidate Naresh P.

The elections were conducted on Monday (September 28, 2026) from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the counting of votes began on Tuesday (September 29, 2026) and continued until around 3 a.m. the next day. The Office of the Dean, Students’ Welfare, published the notification of the results on Thursday (October 1, 2026).

The other elected office bearers are: Korra Nithin Chauhan from IMA Language Sciences (Vice-President), Pratik Sagar from IMA History (General Secretary), Sidhant Sashwat from Ph.D. Political Science (Joint Secretary), Abinash Kumar from MPA Music (Cultural Secretary), and Banoth Sai from IMSC Chemistry (Sports Secretary).

As per the notification, the elected representatives for the Internal Complaints Committee (Gender Sensitization Committee Against Sexual Harassment) are Integrated – Vislavath Jiyasherin pursuing IMA Political Science, Postgraduate – Naphibansabet Byrsat pursuing M.A. in Sociology, and Research – Byagari Lavanya from Ph.D. Biotechnology & Bioinformatics.

According to affiliation and the support expressed by the candidates, five of the six executive positions in the central panel went to the Left combine. Banoth Sai, who was elected Sports Secretary, is the lone victor from ABVP-SLVD, besides Vislavath Jiyasherin in the ICC-GSCASH.

The current results are the opposite of those in the 2025–26 contest, when ABVP won all six executive positions in what was described as a historic victory, ending a seven-year gap.
