Tasmac employees at retail outlets across T.N. to wear uniform from November 15

From November 15, employees working at retail vending shops operated by the Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation Limited (Tasmac) will be required to report for duty in uniforms prescribed by the government.

Supervisors will wear light blue shirts with navy blue trousers, while salesmen and assistant salesmen will wear beige shirts with dark grey trousers. Each employee will get three sets of uniforms.

“Having regard to the nature of the duties performed by the personnel of the Tasmac Retail Vending Shops, and to the need to maintain a uniform, neat and professional appearance at the shops, it has been considered appropriate to implement a uniform concept for them,” according to a message that was sent to all senior regional managers and district managers of Tasmac.

“The cloth will be supplied through Co-optex,” said Minister for Prohibition and Excise K. Vignesh.

The Tasmac emblem shall be affixed to the left chest of the shirt. The procurement of the cloth shall be completed on or before October 31, and the tailoring and stitching of all the three sets shall be completed on or before November 10.

If there are practical difficulties in procuring, stitching, and distributing uniforms across the State, employees will receive a uniform allowance of ₹2,000 per set annually for three sets.

The allowance will cover both the cost of the cloth and stitching.

The uniform allowance shall be credited to the bank account of each eligible employee on the first day of April every year. 

In 2019, employees working at Elite Tasmac outlets were given uniforms, including a blazer. But the project did not take off.

As on July 2026, Tasmac has 4,048 retail vending shops and a workforce of 22,877 (6,473 supervisors, 14,379 salespersons, and 2,025 assistant salespersons). For the year 2025-2026, the cash cow of the Tamil Nadu government earned a revenue of ₹50,845 crore.
