TCN begins repairs on four vandalised towers in Rivers - The Guardian Nigeria News
The Transmission Company of Nigeria has commenced rehabilitation of four transmission towers damaged by vandals along the Afam-IPP-Elelenwo 132kV Double-Circuit Transmission Line in Rivers State.The affected towers, identified as T50 to T53, were discovered during an inspection by TCN engineers from the Port Harcourt Region on August 6, 2026.
The company said the tower members had been removed and carted away, leaving the transmission infrastructure vulnerable to further damage.
βThe Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) is currently rehabilitating four towers vandalised along the Afam-IPP-Elelenwo 132kV Double-Circuit Transmission Line. The incident was discovered on August 6, 2026, by the companyβs lines engineers from the Port Harcourt Region,β TCNβs statement partly read.TCN said the affected structures were Towers T50 to T53, adding that their tower members had been removed.
βTowers T50 to T53 were affected, with their tower members removed and carted away,β the statement added.The latest attack represents the fifth reported vandalism incident on the same transmission line in recent times, highlighting the recurring threat to electricity infrastructure in the area.
βThis is the fifth vandalism attack on the same line in recent times,β the company continued.
TCN said rehabilitation work was ongoing and called on stakeholders to support measures aimed at protecting transmission facilities from further attacks.
βAs rehabilitation work progresses, we enjoin all stakeholders to join hands to curb the menace that is threatening the stability of the national gridβ, TCN concluded.
The Afam-IPP-Elelenwo line is part of the transmission network used to move electricity within the Niger Delta region. Damage to transmission towers can affect the safe and reliable transmission of generated electricity and potentially undermine grid stability.
TCNβs latest intervention comes as the company continues to rely on inspections, maintenance and rehabilitation to restore vandalised infrastructure and sustain the reliability of the national electricity grid.
