Tennessee assistant William Inge battling serious health issue in hospital - USA Today
Tennessee linebackers coach William Inge will miss his second consecutive game due to a serious health condition when the No. 13 Vols host top-ranked Texas Saturday, Sept. 26, at noon at Neyland Stadium.
Tennessee addressed Inge's situation in a statement on X (formerly known as Twitter).
"Tennessee linebackers coach William Inge has been in the hospital dealing with a personal medical issue," the statement said. "Coach Inge and his family appreciate your prayers and support, and we ask that you respect their privacy at this time."
Inge also missed Tennessee's win last week at home against Kennesaw State as he's been hospitalized with an unspecified condition.
He's in his third season on Josh Heupel's Tennessee staff but his first working under new defensive coordinator Jim Knowles.
A former player at Iowa, Inge has been a co-defensive coordinator in the past at both Indiana and Washington.
He joined the Tennessee staff after the 2023 season, when then-Washington coach Kalen DeBoer left the Huskies to replace Nick Saban at Alabama.
Inge had been expected to join DeBoer at Alabama but instead inked with the Vols on Feb. 21, 2024.
