Texas high school football game ends in score that looks like a typo - USA Today

Everyone knows Texas high school football is a different beast with bigger stadiums, massive showdowns and otherworldly passion.

On Friday night, Sept. 11, a triple-digit final score was added to the list as Life Oak Cliff, out of the Dallas area, topped Bonham 105-14 on Friday night.

And no, that's not a typo (we triple checked).

Stats from Friday night's blowout weren't available at the time of this publishing, but one could assume the Lions' offense was clicking — just as it has all season.

Life Oak Cliff (3-0), led by junior quarterback Camren Phillips, who is the team's passing and rushing leader, scored 69 points in its Week 1 win vs. Rains, followed by 46 points in its Week 2 win vs. Trinity Leadership.

As impressive as the Lions' final score was on Friday night, it didn't sniff the Texas record for most points scored in a high school football game.

According to MaxPreps, Spur High School put up the state record on Nov. 7, 1930 in a 186-0 win over Lorenzo. Spur's 186-point night followed totals of 142 points and 91 points from earlier in the season. Ironically, both of Spur's leading scorers from the Lorenzo game were later deemed ineligible, eliminating Spur from what was bound to be a fun-to-watch postseason run.

High-scoring high school football games weren't abnormal in the 1930s, whereas 100-point final scores are a bit of a rarity in today's game.

Interestingly, Life Oak Cliff's high score comes a week after another Texas high school football scoring rarity as Richmond Randle held off Spring Westfield in a 3-0 affair.
