That’s So Raven star found with stolen firearm sentenced to federal prison

An actor who starred in the hit 2000’s Disney sitcom That’s So Raven has been sentenced to 30 months behind bars at a federal jail for a firearm charge.

​Bobb’e J. Thompson, a 30-year-old actor from Kansas City who also appeared in NBC’s 30 Rock and the movie Role Models, was caught driving at 104 mph in a 70 mph zone by law enforcement back in September 2025.

​According to federal prosecutors, officers conducting a traffic stop in Cerro Gordo County, Iowa noticed Thompson and a passenger swap seats, and the smell of marijuana from the vehicle.

​During their search of the car, authorities discovered several bags containing marijuana as well as a fully loaded .40 caliber handgun - complete with a 15-round magazine and a round in the chamber.

​The firearm had been reported as stolen from a vehicle in Kansas City, prosecutors state. Thompson entered a guilty plea to the charge of possession of a firearm by a felon in April.

He was sentenced to 30 months behind bars at a federal prison by U.S. District Court Judge Leonard T. Strand in Sioux City on September 16. Under the federal system, there is no offer of parole. Thompson will also serve a 3-year term of supervised release after he leaves prison.

​The actor was known for playing neighborhood trickster Stanley in Disney’s That’s So Raven, as well as appearing on Tina Fey’s 30 Rock as Tracy Jr, the son of Tracy Morgan’s character.

​Thompson has appeared in several major film productions, including 2008’s Role Models, for which he was nominated for the Best Breakthrough Performance award at the MTV Movie Awards. He also appeared in the 2007 Christmas classic Fred Claus.

​Prosecutors say that Thompson was convicted of battery with serious bodily injury back in 2020, as well as assault with force. In 2022, he was convicted of prohibited possession of a firearm.

​The actor opened up about his previous convictions on the Eating While Broke podcast in 2024.

​“I caught a gun case," Thompson said on the podcast. "And then before that, I caught a case. I got in a fistfight and broke the boy (sic) jaw. And because of the jaw being broken, it was a great bodily injury, and it became a felony."

​The star is currently being held by the U.S. Marshals Service and will be transported to a federal prison.
