These acetaminophen tablets are being recalled in Canada over ‘foreign material.’ Here’s what you need to know

Toronto-based pharmaceutical company Teva Canada is recalling a batch of its generic acetaminophen pills nationwide because the medication may contain a “foreign material” that could cause digestive distress, Health Canada said. 

The recall affects Novo-Gesic Forte 500 milligram containers of the acetaminophen tablets, according to an advisory published Thursday. 

Health Canada says the affected product may contain phenolic resin or epoxy, which could cause “injury to the digestive system” in ingested. Epoxy and resin in a hardened form is a relatively a low health risk to humans, the health agency noted online. 

The recalled tablets were supplied to pharmacies in bottles containing 1,000 pills before being sold to customers in smaller quantities, the government agency added. 

The recall is limited to lot 100083040, which has an expiry date of Jan. 31, 2029 and has a Drug Identification number (DIN) of 00482323.

People who have this product should stop using it immediately and return it to their local pharmacy for replacement and proper disposal, Health Canada said.

Acetaminophen is a common painkiller to treat headaches, pain and inflammation, more commonly known under the brand name “Tylenol.”
