Thousand Member’s of opposition parties defect to APC In Jigawa
Thousands of supporters of opposition parties in Jigawa State have defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), pledging support for President Bola Tinubu, Governor Umar Namadi and the party’s candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The defectors, drawn from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), African Democratic Congress (ADC) and Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), announced their decision at an APC rally held in Limawa Ward, Dutse.
More than 10,000 APC supporters, predominantly women, youths and elderly people, attended the rally, convened by the governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Student Matters, Ambassador Salisu Muhammad Seeker.
Receiving the defectors, APC State Chairman Ahmed Garba, represented by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Bashir Kundu, commended residents of Limawa Ward for their support for Tinubu and Namadi.
Kundu said the large turnout and influx of opposition members demonstrated what he described as the APC’s growing grassroots support in the state.
He expressed confidence that the party would retain its support in Jigawa in the 2027 elections, while assuring the new members of equal recognition and opportunities regardless of their previous political affiliations.
Kundu attributed the support for the APC to political appointments given to indigenes of the area and infrastructure projects initiated by the Tinubu and Namadi administrations.
He said the appointments and projects had contributed to the socio-economic development of the area and created opportunities, particularly for youths.
The rally was attended by the APC House of Assembly candidate for the area, Ibrahim Yakubu Yargaba, a former chairman of Dutse Local Government Area; Seeker; the ward councillor, Gambo Dayyanu; and other party leaders and stakeholders. Addressing the gathering, Yargaba urged residents to sustain their support for the APC and vote for its candidates in the 2027 elections.
He described the turnout as a demonstration of support for the programmes and policies of the Tinubu and Namadi administrations.
Yargaba said continued support for the APC would enable the governments to consolidate their achievements and attract further development projects to the area.
He, however, cautioned supporters against complacency, urging them to intensify grassroots mobilisation and prevent opposition parties from gaining ground in the ward.
“Do not allow any opposition party to come here and deceive you or undermine the good relationship you have built with the governor,” he told the gathering.
The rally forms part of the APC’s ongoing mobilisation activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.
