Ganesh idols in varied hues and mesmerising postures were immersed in the Vinayaka Sagar, the designated water body for Nimajjanam in Tirupati, on Wednesday (September 16, 2026), amid devotion and fervour, on the third day of the Vinayaka Chavithi festival.
It has been a practice for most of the residents of Tirupati to go for the immersion of Ganesh idols on the third day, unlike the ninth or eleventh day in other places.
The Tirupati Municipal Corporation (TMC) and the traffic police wing, in consultation with the Tirupati Varasiddhi Vinayaka Festival Committee, had drawn up a detailed route map and travel itinerary for the organisers of the street corner Ganesh pandals for marching towards the water body, located east of the city.

The committee, formed 25 years ago, has been coordinating with local stakeholders to ensure a hassle-free conduct of the procession every year.
A festive atmosphere was all-pervasive throughout the city as tractors laden with mammoth idols passed through its arterial roads to reach the Vinayaka Sagar.
Artistes in similar costumes took out a parade beating traditional drums as the tractors slowly arrived. Several residents gave a warm send-off to the idols installed at their homes and handed them over to the tractors, to be immersed along with the larger idols.
