Today, TNI Holds 81st Anniversary Ceremony, Prabowo to Inaugurate New Units

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) Headquarters is holding a simple ceremony for its 81st anniversary at Prima Field, situated within the TNI Headquarters in Cilangkap, East Jakarta, on Monday (5/10/2026).

This ceremony takes place following the cancellation of the main event originally scheduled to occur at Monas, Central Jakarta.

“The 81st TNI anniversary ceremony is being conducted simply at the TNI Headquarters,” said TNI Information Center Chief Major General TNI Muhammad Nas to Kompas.com on Tuesday (22/9/2026).

Nas indicated that the change of location was made to honor the many TNI personnel currently deployed to handle disasters in Indonesia.

“As many soldiers are engaged in disaster response duties, we still prioritize the solemnity and significance of the commemoration,” he remarked.

Despite the location change, President Prabowo Subianto is still scheduled to attend the ceremony. 

“He is expected to come,” stated TNI Mental Development Center Head Brigadier General TNI Chandra Adibrata at TNI Headquarters on Thursday (1/10/2026).

During this occasion, Prabowo is anticipated to officially inaugurate several new TNI units.

One of these is the new Military Regional Command (Kodam) previously mentioned by Army Chief of Staff (KSAD) General TNI Maruli Simanjuntak.

“There will be five new units in Flores, Yogyakarta, North Maluku, and what’s the other? East Nusa Tenggara. NTT, Maluku, Yogyakarta, Riau Islands,” Maruli stated when met at Silang Monas Field on Saturday (19/9/2026).

This year’s TNI anniversary ceremony differs significantly from previous years.

Aside from not taking place at Monas, this year there will be no parades or demonstrations of military equipment.

“What we usually conduct, like demonstrations and others, we will only perform a parade here,” Chandra asserted.
