‘Top criminal’ Titon murder: 2 held in Chattogram

Police have arrested two named suspects in the murder case of “top criminal” Khandaker Naim Ahmed Titon during a raid in Chattogram's Sitakunda.

Officers rounded up the duo from a residential hotel on Sunday night.

The arrestees are Ripon, alias Ripon Master, an expelled Jatiotabadi Jubo Dal leader from Mohammadpur, and Badal, alias Kailla Badal.

“They were arrested based on information provided by Mohammadpur Police Station,” Chattogram Police Superintendent Md Masud Alam told bdnews24.com.

However, the two were not arrested in connection with Titon's shooting death at the capital's New Market, said Dhaka Metropolitan Police Mohammadpur Zone Assistant Commissioner Abdullah Al-Mamun.

He added, "[Ripon and Badal] are actually accused in a case filed over opening fire at a business in the capital's Bosila after failing to extort money from it.

“They were being sought in that case, and Chattogram police arrested them based on specific information we provided as part of that search."

According to Mohammadpur police, the two arrested men face multiple cases over different crimes in the area, including the murder case of gang leader Alex Emon, along with other charges of murder, extortion and illegal land grabbing.
