The trial of a former police officer accused of murdering Sydney couple Jesse Baird and Luke Davies begins today.

It is alleged Beau Lamarre-Condon shot the pair with his service firearm inside Mr Baird's shared terrace in Sydney's east in 2024.

He has pleaded not guilty to two counts of domestic violence-related murder and one of aggravated break and enter.

Back in February 2024, the Sydney Mardi Gras season was overshadowed by what was first reported as a missing persons case, involving a young couple.

Jesse Baird and Luke Davies were last seen at a pre-Mardi Gras party on Sunday February 18.

Mr Baird was a TV presenter at Channel 10. And Mr Davies was a Qantas flight attendant.

A few days later, on February 23, Beau Lamarre-Condon, who was at that time a serving police officer, was arrested and charged with two counts of murder.

Mr Lamarre-Condon had previously been in some kind of relationship with Mr Baird.

But it wasn't until the following week - on the 27th of February - that the bodies of the couple were found at a rural area in New South Wales called Bungonia, which is about 200 kilometres south of the Sydney CBD.

Police said that they were found in surf bags.

Lamarre-Condon, who's 31,  is facing to two counts of domestic violence-related murder and one of aggravated break and enter.

It 's alleged he shot the pair with his service firearm inside Mr Baird's home.

The break and enter offence is alleged to have occurred at the Paddington property in August the previous year.

The trial is being heard at the NSW Supreme Court in Sydney before Justice Natalie Adams.. it's expected to last about three months.

Jurors are likely to hear from dozens of witnesses.
