US President Donald Trump on Monday described the shooting at the Islamic Center of San Diego as a “terrible situation,” as officials work to piece together what happened and determine the circumstances behind the attack.

Speaking to reporters at the White House after receiving early briefings, Trump said federal and local agencies were actively reviewing the case and gathering more information. He emphasized that the situation was still developing and under close scrutiny by authorities.

“They're giving a briefing on it ...and it's a terrible situation. I've been given some early updates, but we're going to be going back and looking at it very strongly,” Trump said.

The president’s comments came after authorities reported that five people, including two suspected shooters, were killed in the incident at the center in San Diego’s Clairemont neighborhood on Monday. Investigators are continuing to examine the scene and determine the motive and sequence of events.
