Trump, Xi wrap up summit with tea and archives tour

US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping wrapped up a three-day summit on Friday with tea at the White House and a tour of the National Archives, showcasing personal diplomacy while producing few major breakthroughs in their strained economic relationship. The two leaders praised their talks, with Trump saying the summit between the world's two largest economies had produced "great strides" and expressing confidence that US farmers would benefit. Xi described the bilateral relationship as a constructive one based on "strategic stability on the basis of respect, fairness and reciprocity". Trump said he and Xi would meet twice more this year, at the APEC summit in China in November and the G20 summit in Miami in December. Xi also invited Trump and First Lady Melania Trump to visit China. The summit was marked by elaborate ceremony, including a state dinner, flyovers and tours, but concrete agreements remained limited. US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said details of the trade understandings reached by the two sides would be released on Monday. Greer said the countries had agreed to exempt some key goods from trade disputes, including US agricultural products and medical devices exported to China, as well as consumer and non-sensitive goods imported from China.
