Tuna gets full clean at north-west Tassie car wash - ABC listen - ABC News & Headlines – Australian Broadcasting Corporation

It's not every day you see a tuna being cleaned at a car wash. 

Devonport's Patrick Dearing tells Tasmania Mornings presenter Leon Compton how he watched the spectacle unfold. 

"The boys came in with a large boat and they were trying to clean the boat," he says. 

"Next thing they're raising the 40 kilo bluefin tuna up on the hoist in the car wash bay."

Patrick DearingWell, the boys came in with a large boat and they were trying to clean the boat. Next thing they're raising about the 40 kilo bluefin tuna up on the hoist on the, in the car wash bay. So, I think they were trying to take full advantage of all the washing options that are available to them at the wash bay.

Leon ComptonSo they threw a rope around the tail of a bluefin tuna, hoisted it up at the car wash and then started to get into it?

Patrick DearingYeah, they were cleaning all the boat out, they're jumping in and out of the boat, cleaning that and that just sat there as like a beautiful trophy for everyone to see.

Leon ComptonThey didn't apply any, like, were you debating whether they were going to get like, what sort of a wash process they'd put it through?

Patrick DearingWe thought that, I mean, I'm glad they didn't do the laser wash, so that would have been interesting for it to go through. But I'm not sure if I actually saw any of the selections they chose, but they could have finished with a spot-free clean at the end and it would look magnificent, I'm sure.

Leon ComptonOr the foaming brush just to keep it going?

Patrick DearingThat would have been spectacular as well.

Patrick DearingNot sure how the brush would smell today if someone's cleaning their car today though.

Leon ComptonOkay. How long did it take to, and what sort of a crowd gathered? Because I, these are the sorts of-

Patrick DearingThere was about 15 to 20 people, yeah.

Leon ComptonHow many people, sorry?

Patrick DearingThere was about 15 to 20 people hanging around asking them, you know, where they caught it and they left up there for about half an hour whilst they cleaned the boat out. So it was quite spectacular to watch.

Leon ComptonThis is the sort of, in creative Tasmanian ideas people that we need right now.

Patrick DearingYes, I agree with you 100%. Utilise the facilities that are available to them in the best possible way.
