Two arrested after half a million rand worth of crystal meth seized in Diepsloot - IOL

Police have arrested two foreign nationals at a spaza shop in the Diepsloot informal settlement in Gauteng after a tip-off from a registered informant. 

Members attached to the Diepsloot SAPS Crime Prevention Unit (CPU) conducted an ad hoc operation after receiving information on suspected storage and distribution of illegal narcotics in the informal settlement on Monday. 

“The information was received from a registered informant, who indicated that a known target was expected to receive a consignment of Crystal Meth estimated to weigh 3kg and with a street value of over R700,000. The drugs were allegedly intended for distribution and sale in the vicinity,” police said. 

When acting on the information, Diepsloot SAPS CPU members responded and searched the spaza shop.

“During the operation, members seized approximately 2kg of Crystal Meth, with an estimated street value of over R500,000. The known target fled the scene just before the police could arrest them. Two suspects, who were identified as Ethiopian and Malawian nationals, were subsequently arrested in connection with the suspected possession and distribution of illegal narcotics,” police said. 

The suspects are expected to appear before court on charges relating to the possession and distribution of illegal narcotics.
