Two ATM kiosks burgled near Karimnagar in pre-dawn heists

Robbers struck two ATM kiosks of a nationalised bank along Rajiv Rahadari (State Highway 1) near Karimnagar in the early hours of Sunday (September 20, 2026), escaping with cash after disabling CCTV cameras and cutting open an ATM chest with a gas cutter.
It was not immediately known whether the same gang was behind the two other robberies at Durshed and Thimmapur, both under the Karimnagar Police Commissionerate.
At Durshed, three masked robbers allegedly barged into an ATM around 3.30 a.m., damaged the CCTV cameras and cut open the cash chest reportedly with a gas cutter. They fled in a four-wheeler with around ₹8 lakh in cash.
The burglar alaram at the bank’s central control room was triggered, following which officials alerted the local bank staff, according to sources.
In the second incident near Thimmapur, two masked miscreants targeted another ATM. One of them was dressed in women’s attire and spray painted the CCTV camera at the entrance before entering the kiosk. The miscreants fled with cash, though the exact amount was yet to be ascertained.
The two incidents bear similarities to an ATM robbery that took place at Yellareddypet in Rajanna Sircilla district in April this year. That case remains unsolved.
Police suspect the involvement of a robbery gang from neighbouring Maharashtra based on the modus operandi. Multiple police teams have been constituted to identify and nab the suspects.
Police are examining footage from CCTV cameras near the burgled ATMs for clues to trace the vehicle used in the heists.
