Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced on Sunday (October 4, 2026) that Bhadohi district has been renamed as Sant Ravidas Nagar Bhadohi. Speaking at an event in the district, Mr. Adityanath added, βNow Bhadohi district will be called Sant Ravidas Nagar Bhadohi.β
The CM inaugurated and laid foundation stones for 112 projects worth over βΉ1,340 crore. βOn Guru Purnima, we had said that Bhadohi district, which is known for its carpet industry, would be named after Satguru Ravidas ji Maharaj, a medieval saint who united society through his spiritual devotion,β the U.P. CM said.
Mr. Adityanath added, βU.P. was once a state with unlimited potential, but the BIMARU mindset of previous governments ruined it. We have turned the State around and in U.P. artisans and craftspeople who were once compelled to migrate in search of livelihoods now have a platform to showcase their skills. Before 2017, businesses were in distress due to riots, curfews and lawlessness, but now no mafia can threaten anyone by brandishing a pistol from an open jeep. Nor can anyone undermine the safety of women.β
The CM said, βToday, the carpet industry has access to technology, design, and markets, along with better connectivity and security. Bhadohi carpets are establishing their identity in the global market. Before 2017, there was frustration and despair in Uttar Pradesh. Artisans could not find work, and domestic and foreign buyers were reluctant to visit. The Government has included Bhadohi carpets in the One District-One Product (ODOP) scheme and connected artisans to critical resources.β
