U.P. receives approval for rejuvenation and integrated development of Gomti Udgam Sthal in Pilibhit

The Uttar Pradesh Government on Friday (September 18, 2026) said it received the approval for rejuvenation and integrated development of Gomti Udgam Sthal, the sacred origin point of the Gomti River, at Gomat Taal in Pilibhit amid a push for wetland restoration. U.P. State Mission for Clean Ganga also added that the State is rapidly progressing toward national Ganga cleanliness targets.

“The National Mission for Clean Ganga has given administrative approval and expenditure sanction for Master Plan for the rejuvenation and integrated development of Gomti Sthal-Lake Restoration and Sewage Treatment (NBS) at Gomti Udgam Sthal, Pilibhit, under Namami Gange Mission — III, at an estimated cost of ₹12.26 crore which will include sewage infrastructure like interception, diversion, and treatment of domestic sewage generated by Madho Tanda Village through a network of interceptor drains/sewers, and Hydraulic rejuvenation of all three lakes through an escape channel system for controlled monsoon inflow, structural strengthening of deteriorated embankments,” said Joginder Singh, Project Director, State Mission for Clean Ganga, Uttar Pradesh.

The period of completion of the project is 24 months (excluding bidding process) for the construction phase and five Years for Operation & Maintenance (O&M). “In the coming times we will restore Turtle habitat, watershed treatment. Uttar Pradesh has taken a major step toward ensuring the cleanliness of rivers, lakes including Ganga and Yamuna under the State Mission for Clean Ganga. Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s guidance and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s leadership, extensive work is underway to treat wastewater and prevent river pollution. Untreated sewage from U.P. cities will no longer flow directly into rivers. Under Namami Gange Mission Phase-2, sewerage infrastructure is being significantly strengthened,” added Mr. Singh, a 2015-batch Indian Administrative Service Officer (IAS) officer.
