UAAP: Kieffer Alas leads Ateneo comeback win over NU after 17-point deficit - GMA Network

Kieffer Alas starred anew as Ateneo de Manila University completed a come-from-behind victory against National University, 87-76, in UAAP Season 89 on Saturday at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.

The Bulldogs led by as many as 17 points, 36-19, in the second quarter before the Blue Eagles made a 15-2 run to claim the lead with 2:46 left in the first half. Tebol Garcia broke the drought for Ateneo, but Andrew Bongo drilled back-to-back triples, followed by an EJ Kapihe basket, to give the Katipunan crew a 42-40 lead. Shawn Tuano then drilled a triple just before the first half ended, giving the Blue Eagles a 45-40 lead.

NU then kept up with Ateneo, trailing by just four, 67-63, at the end of the third period, before the Bulldogs opened the fourth period with a 5-0 run to put NU in front, 68-67. Travis Roberts then drilled a triple, but Mo Diassana tied the game at 70 with 5:39 left.

Roberts then drilled another triple, but Jumamoy answered with back-to-back baskets to give NU a 74-73 lead.

From there, Alas ignited a 14-0 run, scoring 10 points during the surge, including the dagger triple that sealed the victory for the Blue Eagles, before DJ Laconsay scored NU’s final basket.

Alas had 18 points, five rebounds, four assists, three steals, and a block to lead the Blue Eagles to their third win in four games. Andrew Bongo added 16 points, while Shawn Tuano and Travis Roberts had 14 points each. EJ Kapihe, meanwhile, had 12 points.

Tebol Garcia led the Bulldogs in scoring with 18 points, while Jumamoy had 15 points, and Paul Francisco added 14 points as the Bulldogs dropped to 2-2.
