UK woman gives birth to baby in KFC parking lot, gives him a fitting nickname

Most babies arrive in a hospital delivery room, but one baby boy in England made his entrance into the world in a rather unexpected place; the parking lot of a KFC.

And because his birthplace was hard to forget, his parents had already given him a fitting nickname: Colonel Cody.

According to a report by Fox News, Katie Murphy, 33, gave birth to her son Cody in the parking lot of a KFC restaurant in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire, on August 29. She and her partner, Stephen Kirby, 32, had been on their way to the hospital when the baby decided he simply could not wait.

The couple, who also have a four-year-old daughter, had initially gone to the hospital that morning after Katie began experiencing contractions. They returned home around 4 pm after being told that it was still too early for the baby to arrive.

But the contractions continued for several hours. At around 9 pm, the couple decided to make another trip to the hospital, roughly 30 minutes away.

They were only halfway through the journey when Katie realised the situation had changed. Stephen recalled that she told him she could feel something and knew the baby was coming.

While he was speaking to emergency services, he spotted a KFC restaurant that the couple regularly visited and pulled into its parking lot.

There was little time left to spare. Before an ambulance could reach them, Stephen rushed around to the front seat, where Katie was sitting, and caught their son as he was born at 9:35 pm. Paramedics arrived about five minutes later and took the family to hospital.

Katie later said that everything happened incredibly quickly, but thankfully Cody was healthy and happy despite his rather abrupt arrival in his father’s car.

And then came the obvious question: what do you call a baby who was born at KFC? For the family, the answer was Colonel Cody, a playful nod to KFC founder Colonel Harland Sanders.

Katie joked that they would take Cody to KFC for his first birthday and even get him his first weekend job there.

The unusual birth also caught the attention of KFC itself. A spokesperson told Fox News that the company was honoured to have been the place of Cody’s birth and sent “bucket loads of love” to the family, along with KFC merchandise and vouchers.
