The Nigerian Army also later confirmed the attack and the casualties. The army said its troops eventually saw off and defeated the terrorists and that the brigade commander was not kidnapped.
According to the army statement, the troops βcourageously fought through the insurgents ambush with superior fire power,β forcing the attackers to withdraw in disarray.
The army added that the terrorists abandoned their mission as a result of the troopsβ response.
While confirming the loss of two soldiers and two CJTF members βwho paid the supreme price,β the army commiserated with the families and associates of the deceased and praised their βheroic sacrifice to the nation.β
