US man shows how Indian wife left hotel room after checkout, one detail stands out
An American man based in Thailand showed how his Indian wife left their hotel room after their stay, and one thoughtful detail for the housekeeping staff caught his attention.
Instagram user Kip Crossing shared the video on his account, giving viewers a room-by-room look at the space before they checked out. As he filmed, he explained that his wife is from Mizoram in Northeast India and said people from the state are known for being considerate and tidy.
He first pointed out that the room had been left almost immaculate. Then he gestured towards something special near the entrance, where his wife had left flowers for the housekeepers along with a handwritten note thanking them for their hard work.
βCheck this out,β he said, pointing out the flowers and note before moving towards the kitchen.
There, he showed that all the dishes had been washed, and the rubbish had been collected into neatly tied bags and placed together in one corner. He then walked through the bathrooms, which had also been left clean and orderly.
As he continued the tour, Kip showed the main bedroom, pointing out the towels neatly placed in one corner and the bed made before moving on to the other room, which had also been tidied up.
Towards the end of the video, he used the example to make a broader point about Indiaβs diversity. βIndia is such a diverse country with a lot of different cultures,β he said, urging people not to stereotype an entire country based on the behaviour of a minority.
In the caption, Kip referred to recent social-media discussions portraying Indians as lacking civic sense or being messy while travelling abroad.
He argued that such behaviour should not be generalised to everyone from India and said people should be treated as individuals rather than judged by their nationality.
The video prompted discussion in the comments, with viewers pointing out that although hotel staff would clean the room regardless, leaving it reasonably tidy can be a way of showing respect for the people doing the work.
Others agreed that paying for a service should not mean abandoning basic consideration, while one Mumbai-based user said they follow the same practice because they see it as simple decency.- Ends
