Mahakavya Shri Ramayan Katha has drawn unexpected online attention following its theatrical release, with audiences dissecting its production values and visual effects. The discourse has intensified over a newly released promotional poster, after eagle-eyed viewers spotted a vanar character wearing modern spectacles.
As promotional posters for Mahakavya Shri Ramayan Katha make the rounds on social media, a surprising detail has raised eyebrows. One poster depicting Sugriv, a vanar portrayed in human form, features the character wearing modern glasses.
The visual anomaly quickly triggered a flurry of online memes, with users questioning the presence of eyewear in the Treta Yuga while poking fun at the artwork.
A user wrote, "Treta yug me bhi chashma lagate the (People wore spectacles even in the Treta Yuga?) (sic)." Another commented, "Why not, dude... didn't people have eyes in the Treta Yuga or what? Mahakavya Shri Ramayan Katha presents the narrative through Shashwat, a young boy who learns of Lord Ram's life from Lord Hanuman in the form of a sage. Designed for younger viewers, the project aims to connect modern audiences with the epic without diluting its spiritual weight.
The ensemble cast features Anjali Arora as Goddess Sita and Dev Sharma as Lord Ram, alongside Sheel Verma as Lakshman, Nirbhay Wadhwa as Lord Hanuman, and Rajniesh Duggal as Ravan.
During the trailer launch, Dev Sharma revealed that he was previously in contention for two other major cinematic retellings of the epic. He explained that he had been offered the role of Lakshman in Prabhas’ Adipurush and was also evaluated for the film featuring Ranbir Kapoor.
Dev claimed that he missed out on Ramayana due to a height discrepancy, as he stood taller than actor Ranbir Kapoor. The actor said, “Before this, I was offered the role of Lakshman in both Adipurush as well as Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana. My look tests were also almost finalised, but things didn't work out.”
He added, "Somewhere (hinting at Ramayana), I was two inches taller than the actor playing Lord Rama, and in another (Adipurush), I was as huge as the actor playing Lord Rama (Prabhas), so I wasn't finalised. So I was disheartened that maybe my connection with Ramayana is not that good; that is why I am being rejected again and again.”
Directed by Abhishek Singh, Mahakavya Shri Ramayan Katha has been produced by Prakash Mahobiya and Sanjay Bundela, with Honey Kuldeep Agarwal and Moni Sen as co-producers.
