Vibe vs Daayra box office Day 3: Kunal Kemmu beats Kareena on opening weekend
Actor Kunal Kemmu’s Vibe led the box office over its opening weekend, finishing ahead of Kareena Kapoor’s Daayra. The Kemmu and Preity Zinta-starrer earned Rs 7.45 crore nett in India in its first three days, while the Prithviraj Sukumaran and Kareena Kapoor Khan-led crime thriller collected Rs 4.50 crore nett.
Both films recorded better collections after Friday. Vibe opened at Rs 1.70 crore on Day 1, rose to Rs 2.75 crore on Saturday and posted its highest single-day total on Sunday with Rs 3 crore. Daayra began with Rs 1 crore on Friday and then earned Rs 1.75 crore each on Saturday and Sunday.
According to trade website Sacnilk, Vibe opened on September 18 with Rs 1.70 crore and followed it up with Rs 2.75 crore on Saturday. The film added another Rs 3 crore on Sunday, taking its opening weekend total to Rs 7.45 crore nett. Its occupancy also climbed through the weekend, from 14 per cent on Friday to 21 per cent on Saturday and 23 per cent on Sunday.
The film marks Kunal Kemmu’s second directorial after Madgaon Express (2024). He has written, produced and directed Vibe, apart from starring in it alongside Preity Zinta, Sparsh Shrivastava and Vanshika Dhir. The film also marks Kemmu’s debut as a producer and Vanshika’s acting debut.
Vibe follows two close friends whose ordinary lives are thrown into chaos when they find themselves caught up in an unpredictable adventure. Their friendship and survival instincts are put to the test as events spiral out of control.
India Today rated Vibe 3 stars. A part of the review read, "On paper, it sounds like a familiar buddy comedy-meets-spy thriller formula. Kemmu, however, is clearly less interested in the mechanics of espionage than in the comic possibilities of dropping two chaotic men into a world that demands precision." Daayra Day 3 box office
The Kareena Kapoor starrer began its theatrical run with Rs 1 crore on Friday. The film picked up over the next two days, earning Rs 1.75 crore on Saturday and the same amount on Sunday. It ended the weekend at Rs 4.50 crore nett. Its occupancy stood at 12 per cent on Friday, 18 per cent on Saturday and 20 per cent on Sunday.
Directed by Meghna Gulzar, Daayra stars Prithviraj Sukumaran and Kareena Kapoor Khan. The crime thriller, which was released on September 18, is inspired by true events and follows DCP Raman Kumar and DCP Ajooni Kohli as a controversial case puts them on opposing sides of the same system.
As their paths collide, the film explores questions of truth, accountability and the moral boundaries of justice.
Daayra also received a 3-star rating from India Today. A part of the review read, "Daayra is a film with the right instincts and genuine conviction behind it. Meghna Gulzar is asking important questions about justice, the judiciary and what happens to women who fall between the cracks of a system that was supposed to protect them."
