Video: Woman cop slaps Patna man harassing her, he hits back; arrested

A video showing a woman police officer being slapped in Patna has gone viral on social media, leading to the arrest of a 22-year-old man. The accused has been identified as Pradeep Kumar.

The police are on the lookout for two other men in the case. The incident took place around 8.30 pm on Wednesday, September 30.

According to the police, sub-inspector (SI) Priyanka Anand, along with other policewomen, were on patrol duty on scooters when the behaviour of three young men raised suspicion.

The policewoman subsequently went to confront them, officials said. The footage circulating on social media shows an argument broke between the two sides before escalating into a scuffle.

SI Priyanka Anand was slapped by one of the accused during the scuffle, officials said. The group of men fled the spot when the police team tried to overpower them, they added.

The viral video, however, apparently shows the woman SI slapping the man first. A case was registered in connection with the matter later that same day.

Initially, the FIR was filed against multiple unidentified persons for allegedly misbehaving and rough-handling the female police personnel, with sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) invoked against them.
