The Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) organised as a Run Fest marathon within the university premises, as part of the Technology and Management fest Gravitas.

Around 2,000 participants, including students, faculty and staff, took part in the event, with 1,397 men and 588 women among them, the university said.

The marathon was inaugurated by VIT registrar T. Jayabharathi in the presence of Gravitas convenor Sudhakar and physical education director Mangeyrkarasi Arun.

In the men’s category, the winners were Pranay Angada, Salunkhe Tansih Raghul and Aarya Vardhan Sharma, while Ayushi Jain, Zoobiya Tariq and Anagha Neelacantan emerged winners in the women’s category.

The 17th edition of Gravitas was organised from September 18 to 20. Nearly 40,000 students participated in the three-day fest, which featured around 227 events. This year, 157 new events were introduced, comprising 31 hackathons, 62 workshops, 57 technical competitions, 10 entrepreneurship events and 67 other programmes. Popular legacy events such as Robowars, Aerodominator and the Quadcopter challenge were also conducted.

The event is being organised under the guidance of VIT chancellor G. Viswanathan, vice-presidents Sankar Viswanathan and Sekar Viswanathan, executive director Sandhya Pentareddy and Assistant vice-president Kadhambari S. Viswanathan.
