Vivo has launched the X Fold 6 in India today. It takes a swing at the folding phone crown. The specs are impressive for a folding phone. The design is old-school. Unlike Apple and Samsung selling you passport-style folding phones this year, Vivo has chosen to stick to the X Fold 5 design giving you a folding phone that is long and narrow, not short and wide.

The X Fold 6 in fact follows the “if it isn’t broke” adage closely bringing upgrades only where necessary. This includes the latest Dimensity 9500 chip from MediaTek and a more powerful 200-megapixel main camera. Running the show is the new Origin OS 7 software. The battery, too, is slightly bigger closing in on almost 7,000mAh. All this makes the X Fold 6 not only the best folding phone from Vivo yet but also one of the most powerful folding phones on the market at the time of writing.Vivo X Fold 6 specs and features

The X Fold 6 is made of high-quality materials which is a mix of glass and metal with IP59 ingress protection. It features an 8.02-inch inner folding display and a 6.51-inch cover screen. Both panels are LTPO AMOLED with a maximum refresh rate of 120Hz.

Powering the phone is the flagship Dimensity 9500 chip. Vivo calls it “super edition” which suggests a strategic collaboration with MediaTek to seemingly eke more out of the SoC (system on chip). Samsung does something similar with Qualcomm on the Galaxy Z Fold 8 series phones which come with “for Galaxy” branding. In India, Vivo is launching the X Fold 6 in sole 12GB RAM and 512GB storage configuration.

For photography, the X Fold 6 has a triple camera setup on the rear which is a combination of a 200-megapixel main sensor with optically stabilised f/1.68 wide lens, paired with two other 50-megapixel sensors, one mated to an f/2.57 3x periscope lens with OIS, and another to 15mm f/2.05 lens. Zeiss tuning is available along with high-end staples like T-star coating to minimise glare and ghosting particularly when shooting under artificial lighting. There are two more 20-megapixel cameras in this phone, one on the outside cover screen and another on the inside.

Rounding off the package is a 6,900mAh battery with 80W fast wired and 40W wireless charging.Vivo X Fold 6 price in India and availability details

The X Fold 6 carries a sticker price of Rs 2,19,999 for 12GB/512GB. It will come in black and teal shades. General availability is pegged for October 13.- Ends
