VP Gibran Welcomes Malaysian Deputy PM at Jakarta Palace - Tempo.co English
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka met with Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi at the Vice Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Thursday afternoon.
Gibran, donning a black suit, welcomed Ahmad Zahid upon his arrival. The two leaders shared a warm embrace before stepping inside the Vice Presidential Palace.
"Welcome back, Your Excellency. Warm greetings from President Prabowo to Your Excellency. Thank you very much for coming. Malaysia is our close friend and strategic partner. I am very pleased to have Your Excellency here," Gibran said.
He expressed confidence that the visit would deepen bilateral cooperation and open up fresh opportunities benefiting both Indonesia and Malaysia.
Ahmad Zahid expressed his gratitude for the warm reception extended by the Vice President. He also conveyed personal greetings to Gibran from Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
The Malaysian Embassy in Jakarta had previously announced that Ahmad Zahid was scheduled for a working visit to Indonesia this week to confer with Vice President Gibran.
Ahmad Zahid's previous official visit to Indonesia took place on April 20–22, 2025, during which he held separate meetings with President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran.
During that trip, he also met with leadership from the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) and, alongside ASEAN Secretary-General Kao Kim Hourn, launched the ASEAN Unity Drive (AUD) 2025 initiative at the Malaysian Embassy in Jakarta.
