Water and Sanitation Department distances itself from Lawrence Mudzinganyama - EWN

The Department of Water and Sanitation has moved to clarify that it does not do any business with a man caught on camera threatening and being abusive to women in a Sandton restaurant over the weekend.

Government departments have been reviewing their contract records in the wake of the incident involving Zimbabwean businessman Lawrence Mudzinganyama, who is linked to the Moriel Infrastructure Group.

In the video, Mudzinganyama threatens to harm women patrons of the Vlamo restaurant.

During a parliamentary portfolio committee meeting on Tuesday, ActionSA’s Malebo Kobe questioned any affiliations with the Department of Water and Sanitation.

Director General Sean Phillips responded.

"DWS does not have any contracts with that country. I’ve also seen the media reports and the pictures to show that that company has contracts with at least one municipality, which is the eThekwini municipality, but that is not a contract with us. So we don’t have any contracts with that company."
