Says Tharparkar represents the success of Pakistan’s system, the 1973 Constitution and the 18th Amendment
Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said on Monday that if the argument that the system had failed was accepted, Islamabad should be handed over to the people of Tharparkar, saying they would fix it as they had transformed their own region.
“An argument is being forcibly pushed in the country that the system has collapsed, so provinces should be created. I do not understand the logic, but if I accept this logic for even one minute, it means that if Islamabad has failed, then hand Islamabad over to the people of Tharparkar. We will fix it,” Bilawal said while addressing a ceremony in Tharparkar at the Thar Coal Phase-III Inauguration.
“We will have the children there topping every exam. We have just seen the condition of their hospitals; we will make their hospitals 100 per cent free and bring them up to international standards,” Bilawal said.
He said the example of Tharparkar represented the success of Pakistan’s system, the 1973 Constitution and the 18th Amendment. “We should tell Islamabad that they should also run things a little like Thar,” Bilawal said.
He said he had witnessed changes in Tharparkar’s infrastructure, health and education sectors. “I can proudly say that the change I have seen with my own eyes here in Thar is not seen in the rest of Pakistan,” he said.

Bilawal said Thar was producing 2,000 megawatts of electricity through public-private partnerships, accounting for 14 per cent of the national grid, and that the electricity was being generated at the lowest cost.
“We were told that there was no need to extract our coal, that Thar coal was useless and that investing in it and extracting it did not make sense. Today, we are saving $1.6 billion in foreign exchange because of Thar coal,” he said.

Bilawal also spoke about the performance of children from Thar in examinations. “If our children, the children of Thar, children from a backward area, are topping exams, then this is a matter of pride,” he said.
PPP chairman also accused an "orphaned" political party of practising “politics of hatred” and “politics of division” in Karachi, saying it was trying to introduce “Zionist politics” in Sindh.
“You may have heard of Zionism, Israel’s [policy] in Palestine, but they want to introduce this Zionist politics in Sindh. I want to tell them that they will never succeed,” he said.
Bilawal said Thar’s children had repeatedly topped examinations, including the MDCAT. “Instead of congratulating them when they top, instead of applauding them, they are practising their politics of hatred,” Bilawal said.
“God willing, we will bury their politics of hatred and Thar will continue to develop. The children of Thar will continue to progress,” he said.
He said 94 per cent of employment opportunities in Thar coal were going to people from Sindh, while 60 per cent were going to young people from Tharparkar. “If public-private partnership and devolution have given you a model of development and success, that model should be implemented across the country,” he said.

Bilawal said work was underway to produce fertiliser and gas from Thar coal. He urged the authorities to speed up work on producing fertiliser from Thar coal. “I want to see this completed quickly and introduced into the market soon because we are facing a very major crisis,” he said.

He invited Sindh’s and Pakistan’s business communities to work with the provincial government through public-private partnerships.
Bilawal said the Sindh government was planning projects in Karachi and other coastal areas, including a corniche in partnership with the Defence Housing Authority, a business hub through a proposed Sindh investment zone, and a port at Keti Bandar in Thatta.
“If we can bring such a major transformation to Tharparkar, I want us to bring further development to Karachi through public-private partnerships,” he said.
Bilawal said the proposed projects would create opportunities for businesses and employment for young people.
“If we work in the same way and work together, I hope that we can not only bring development to Sindh but also make arrangements for the development of the whole of Pakistan,” he said.
