What is Temple and how to use it, Deepinder Goyal reveals full details ahead of launch
Zomato founder Deepinder Goyal's Temple is set to launch soon, with pre-orders possibly opening next week. The device is small and pill-shaped, and sits between the forehead and the ear, so its look alone is bound to spill plenty of questions. One curious user put several of them to Goyal on X, and he replied to each, trying to quench the public's curiosity about the device. The device is confirmed to come in six colourways.
Tyag, an X user who goes by @tyags6, put six questions to Goyal about the device's appearance, saying, "I still have so many fundamental questions." And Goyal also admitted they were fair questions. A device like Temple, he said, is radically new, which is why it comes with "a lot of wtfs." Here's how he answered each one.Does it stick to your skin?
Yes. Goyal confirmed Temple stays on with single-use "Grips," which are basically tapes. Goyal said the price includes an unlimited supply of them. Importantly, Goyal doesn't think it's weird either: "You don't even feel you are wearing Temple." He added that inventing the right Grips was as hard as making the device, and the team has now got them right for 99 per cent of its audience.
Goyal revealed that the Temple is "super sticky." So you can run and jump, putting Temple on the side of your forehead, and it "doesn't move."
Moving on to the question of taking a bath or swimming. Goyal said, yes, you can sauna, swim and shower with it, everything except scuba diving. He clarified that this is a limit of the device, not the tape. Can you reuse the grip, and will it fall off when you change clothes?
You can take Temple off whenever you like, but a Grip can't be reused. "Always use a fresh Grip," Goyal said.
On the question of fall off, Goyal replied, "Not at all." The device has very smooth edges, so clothes just slide over it. One Grip can last around seven days, which matches the device's battery life, but the company recommends changing it every two to three days. He added that you can wash your face, shower, do skincare and even wear makeup with Temple on.What if your temple itches?
Goyal said he hasn't heard this one so far. He joked that the "medical grade" Grips may keep skin so supple that it never itches. He also added a bonus note: customers call Temple the most comfortable wearable they have used, though it takes about five minutes to get used to.
Beyond the appearance and looks, Temple's real pitch is health. It measures blood flow to the brain through a system called Brain Flow, which Goyal calls the first continuous, wearable measurement of its kind. Some people remain sceptical, as the studies he has shared haven't been peer reviewed yet.
As for the launch, Temple will come in True Gold, Rose Gold, Black Mirror, Real Jade, Deep Blue and Purple Funk. These are for the "launch edition," Goyal said, and pre-orders could open as early as next week. You'll need to apply for early access on Temple's website. The price is still unclear, though Goyal has earlier teased roughly $1,000, or about Rs 1 lakh.- Ends
