The FBI's Dallas Field Office and the HHS OIG investigated the issue, and the criminal case is being handled by prosecutors from the United States Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Texas.

According to the US Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General (HHS-OIG), Mohammed, 46, owned American Premier Labs LLC in Richardson, Texas.

According to HHS-OIG, doctors whose names appeared on Medicare claims allegedly did not order the genetic tests, had no treatment relationship with the beneficiaries, and did not use the results in patient care.

Authorities have stated that legitimate physicians' identities were used to make laboratory claims appear medically authorized.

Federal prosecutors say the alleged conduct occurred from August 2023 through October 2024 in the Northern District of Texas and elsewhere.
