Woman strips naked on US flight, behaves indecently in front of passengers; arrested
What began as a routine flight from Baltimore to Miami in the United States turned into an unusual mid-air disturbance after a woman stripped completely naked and behaved indecently in front of fellow passengers, prompting the crew to alert the cockpit and request law enforcement.
The disturbance was serious enough for the lead flight attendant to alert the cockpit crew, setting off a chain of communication between the aircraft and the airline's operations centre as the plane continued towards its destination.
According to an Aircraft Communications Addressing and Reporting System (ACARS) message sent to American Airlines' Integrated Operations Center, the passenger, seated in 9D, had “taken off all her clothes” and was seen by other passengers behaving “in an indecent manner”.
The crew reported the incident to the airline's operations centre and requested that law enforcement be called to meet the aircraft upon arrival.
However, the crew did not divert the aircraft and continued its journey towards Florida while the airline coordinated with authorities on the ground.
By the time the plane reached Miami, officers were waiting at the gate. The woman was taken into custody as soon as the aircraft landed, according to reports.
The plane arrived at Gate D2 in Terminal N at Miami International Airport at around 11.23 pm local time.
It remains unclear what measures the cabin crew took to manage the situation during the flight or whether other passengers were directly affected beyond witnessing the incident.
The episode came to light through the aircraft's ACARS communications, a system used by airlines and flight crews to exchange operational messages.
The incident took place on American Airlines Flight AA1779 on September 11. The Airbus A319 had taken off from Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport shortly after 9 pm local time, nearly two hours later than its scheduled departure.
The aircraft was carrying passengers to Miami on a flight that lasted roughly two hours. The A319 can accommodate up to 160 passengers.
