Woman’s body found in canal, suspects taken into custody

The West Zone police of the NTR Commissionerate, who are probing into the murder of a woman, took a few suspects into custody for questioning.

Police recovered the dismembered woman’s body in the VTPS cooling canal, under Ibrahimpatnam police station limits on September 18, 2026.

“We searched the ‘woman missing’ cases in AP, Bhadradri-Kothagudem and Khammam districts in the neighbouring Telangana State. Police identified that the deceased woman was Kalyani alias Durga, a native of Mangalagiri in Guntur district,”said West Zone Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) N.S.V.K. Durga Rao.

A semi-orphan, Kalyani (28), was a native of Chinna Tatinada village in West Godavari district. She stayed in an NGO home at Gannavaram during her childhood and later married a person from Mangalagiri, and the couple had a son. But, due to some family problems Kalyani was separated from her husband and was staying alone.

Meanwhile, the victim was allegedly maintaining a relationship with a mutton shop owner in Bhavanipuram, Vijayawada. On September 17, Kalyani had a quarrel with the mutton shop owner when she demanded money from him.

Investigation officers suspect that two people might have murdered the woman. Later, they cut the body into pieces and threw them into the VTPS cooling canal to destroy evidence. Police, who verified the call data list from Kalyani’s mobile phone, took three persons into custody for questioning in the case.
