Wynberg Magistrates Court cleaner likely to face more charges - EWN
A cleaner at the Wynberg Magistrates Court who was caught allegedly trying to smuggle drugs and other contraband to a detainee could face additional charges.
Marco Harrison (42) made his first appearance in the same court after being arrested on Monday.
Police said officers acted on a tip-off about a cleaner who planned to hand over contraband to a detainee.
Wynberg Magistrates Court cleaner Harrison was initially caught with a bag of Mandrax tablets, packets of tobacco, crystal meth, dagga, a cellphone with two SIM cards, and a charging cable.
Investigators later searched his office in the court building, where they found another bag of drugs belonging to Harrison.
More than 400 Mandrax tablets, 41 sachets of crystal meth, 14 cellphones, 16 SIM cards, and two cellphone chargers were confiscated.
National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila confirmed the appearance.
"The NPA can confirm that Marco Harrison appeared at the Wynberg Magistrates Court yesterday, charged with dealing in drugs. More charges are likely to be added as the investigation continues," Ntabazalila said.
The matter is back in court on 4 December.
