“You move, you die.” Inside the violent crime sprees of three Toronto carjackers - Toronto Star

For the young criminals behind the auto theft crisis, a carjacking promises 'easy money.' But often, their victims are changed forever.

There are 8,000 parking spots at Yorkdale, a retail mall with quick access to Highway 401, the major east-west artery in Toronto used to get stolen cars to the Montreal port. The busy mall is where Jamar Jacque-Frame did his hunting on a bitterly cold November week in 2023.

Eighteen years old, six-foot-five, he loomed above the cars. Jacque-Frame fancied himself a stylish fellow —  today he’d chosen a pair of red and purple high-top shoes. With a buddy, he walked around. Dinner hour; it was dark, and a cool wind blew between the cars. One vehicle parked on a distant row caught their eye. A one-year-old Lamborghini Urus, valued at roughly $300,000.

The driver was in it, which meant the keys were in it. In the rear, a two-year-old child in a car seat.

Jacque-Frame already had a record for serious crimes. A dropout from Grade 10, he’d aspired to be a chef, but despite a certificate in culinary studies, he’d bounced between jobs. Clothing warehouse for a bit, then a car wash. 

As the next few days revealed, Jacque-Frame was invested in the world of carjacking. He just wasn’t very good at it — though his actions would cause a great deal of anguish to his victims.
