Zomato delivery worker shot dead near police post in Amritsar, 2 attackers flee
A 25-year-old Zomato delivery worker was shot dead by two unidentified men in Punjab's Amritsar on Thursday night. The incident occurred barely 50 metres from a police post.
According to preliminary information, two men riding an Activa opened fire at the victim, identified as Sahil Gill, while he was on his way from home to buy vegetables. The assailants fired two shots, one of which struck Sahil near his chest.
The firing took place around 40 steps from the victim's house, on the road leading towards the Kot Khalsa police post.
Panic soon gripped the area following the attack. With the help of residents, Sahil was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition. However, he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.
Meanwhile, some residents reached Sahil's house and informed his family about the shooting around 10 minutes after it took place. His family members then rushed to the hospital after being informed.
Sahil had been married for around two years and had a six-month-old child.
The residents also informed the police about the incident. A team of officers, including the station house officer and the Assistant Commissioner of Police, soon reached the spot. They inspected the crime scene and launched an investigation.
The Assistant Commissioner of Police said efforts were underway to identify and arrest the accused.
Police are also trying to ascertain the motive behind the shooting and gather more information about the attackers.
